Dekish Operator

April 2024 to August 2024

Summer student position.

As the Dekish operator [DKO] I was responsible for operating and controlling the tilt mechanism that

is used for rotating ladles with hot iron inside, effectively getting all scrap and unused iron out of the

ladle at a controlled speed as to not cause a eruption reaction from the hot iron and water used for

transporting iron to the kish pit.

I also controlled large blast doors used for transporting ladles in and out of the facility, and high powered

recirculation pumps for facilitating the high pressured water spray.

I completed 20+ hours of health and safety eLearning and a full week of in class training for this position

related to safety in the workplace, spatial awareness and hazard recognition, as well as working with

near and around large/heavy machinery like the locomotives used for transporting ladles.

I gained experience with working in a group as well as communicating via radio and telephone to process

ladles.

Habitat For Humanity-Hamilton, ON
September 2021 to January 2022

At HFH I worked on and partly organized the construction of two houses in the down down Hamilton area

My part in organizing included planning and setting dates/timelines for progress aswell as keeping track

of materials

My main job was to build the two homes along with industry journey men and volunteers,

  • Assisting other volunteers and journey men.
  • Cleaning and organizing materials and workspace
  • And contributing to the overall progress of the house

Every year since I turned ten for 3 days per year I volunteered at N2N, where I unboxed, organized,

repackage, and logged all incoming donations under high stress and urgency

Daily duty's included

  • Setting up and organizing the workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Moving and organizing boxes of donations to the other volunteers
  • Unpackage, organize, and repackage the donations
  • Clean workspace to minimize possiblity for injury.
